Membership & Voting
The general membership of the PTA Council consists of the voting delegates of each local unit and the members of the Council Board of Directors.
Each local unit is a member of the PTA Council with four voting delegates-the PTA president and his/her alternate, the principal or his/her alternate, and two delegates or their alternates. The Council delegates are selected by the method specified in the local unit's laws. It is recommended that the Council delegates be elected at the same time and in the same manner as unit officers and they should hold positions on the local unit's executive board. Delegates vote as instructed by their PTAs, unless authorized to vote according to their own judgment.
The Council Board of Directors consists of the officers of the Council, the chairmen of the council standing committees, the Superintendent of Schools or his/her alternate, a BOE liaison, a student representative, the immediate past president of the Council, and any members of the Maryland PTA from Frederick County.
Participation in the business decisions of the Council is limited to the voting delegates of the Council; however, Council meetings are open to all members of the general public.
The President of the PTA Council represents the Council at the state level by serving as a voting member of the Maryland PTA Board of Directors.
